In my school, there is two select choirs. They are Varsity Voices and Women's Chorus. Currently, I am a member of Women's Chorus. It has 27 girls ranging from 9th-12th grade singers. Varsity Voices is the higher advanced choir compared to Women's. It contains 24 people. 12 girls and 12 guys. Varsity contains the best of the best singers at my school. Every other choir member is in Chorale(freshmen girls) and Concert choir (everyone else who signs up).
Auditions for Varsity Voices and Women's Chorus consist of singing the National Anthem, sight-reading, then singing a piece of music you prepare (about 16 measures). Last year I auditioned and made Women's Chorus. This year I wasn't planning on auditioning to make Varsity Voices until about 7:30 this morning. My audition time was 10:30. I had three hours to practice the National Anthem, sight-reading, and think of a song to sing for my choir director. I'm not gonna lie and say that I wasn't freaking out.
I failed a little bit and took a risk in using my belt voice. It wasn't perfect, but I'm glad I auditioned. Really I had nothing to lose because I'm already in Women's Chorus. I can't wait to see if I made it or not! Honestly though, I won't be too disappointed If I don't make it into Varsity Voices. I'm optimistic about the whole thing.
